Our Farmers
At Mettrick's we source all our meat from farms within the Peak District, the North West and Midlands, usually within 35 miles of our shops. We are proud to have direct relationships with the farmers that raise the meat we sell. This section of the site is dedicated to these suppliers.

To give you an idea how important we consider the supply chain, we know EVERYONE who handles the products in our shops. This picture shows farmers, slaughtermen, butchers, bakers and counterstaff our whole supply chain in one picture.

Mettrick's source all their lamb from within the High Peak. The farmers who supply Mettrick's with lamb are:

All these farmers can be seen with their Peak District Environmental Quality Mark.  This award is run by the Peak National Park and is only given to farmers who are conserving the flora, fauna, archaeology and architecture of the Peak District.

Pork - Medium Rare (Staffs)

The farmers who supply Mettrick's with free range pork are:

As the Peak District is not a traditional pig rearing area, we have ventured further into the Midlands to source good pork. 

We have recently been working with Medium Rare on the size of their outdoor paddocks in which the pigs roam and these are now much bigger following our farm visit.  The constant feedback between us and our farmers is the basis for maintaining our quality and giving the customer the reassurance that we are selling great meat.

David and Shaun Heap - Holmfirth - just 13 miles from Glossop.

As with all Mettrick's suppliers, animal welfare is top of the agenda for David and Shaun.  All their turkeys are reared on the farm and they have their own abattoir on site.  This means that there is no live transport involved and we think this is very important.  David's turkeys always draw customer comments for their excellent flavour.  He rears both bronze and traditional birds for us and was crucial to us being awarded Britains Best Turkey Butcher.

Mettrick's bone and roll the full side of pork and cut it into joints similar in appearance to pork loin.  The taste of this pork is fantastic with just enough fat cover to baste the meat.  John says, "I would rate this pork as my find of 2008 and would grace anyone's Christmas table."

Whitwams Farm - Robert Whitwam (near Huddersfield) - 19 miles from Glossop.

As with all Mettrick's suppliers, animal welfare is top of the agenda for Robert Whitwam.  Robert's chickens have natural daylight and much more room than RSPCA Freedom Foods stipulate for their birds.  Robert has an abattoir on the farm so he has no need to transport his birds live, which we think is very important.
